As a Senior Engineer – Carbon Neutral, you will manage the day-to-day responsibility for the design, coordination, co-creation, implementation and execution of operational plans to achieve Venetia mines carbon neutral objectives.

Your role will also be responsible for:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the Carbon Neutrality Roadmap and associated energy/carbon intensity reduction targets based on key business areas
  • Provide expert advice to the Senior Engineering Manager and Operations team
  • Develop in conjunction with all key stakeholders at Venetia and within the group, a viable and credible implementation plan for carbon neutrality by 2030
  • Ensure adequate knowledge of global, regional and industry trends in carbon management practices and developments to inform recommendations to the operation and decision making
  • Liaise and engage with group and industry carbon management thought leaders
  • Provide thought leadership and knowledge about emerging technologies, and regulatory changes that could help deliver our ambition
  • Ensure the seamless integration of all work within the operation to present a unified and comprehensive world class operational Carbon Reduction centre of expertise
  • Implement the critical controls and report to Operational management on their effectiveness including non-compliance aspects
  • Identify control variances/failures, report on these, recommend and implement remediation, with EoR support as appropriate.
  • Capitalize on the opportunities that come with moving towards a low carbon and/or carbon neutral business

Education required:



  • Grade 12/Std10/N3 or relevant NQF Level 4 qualification
  • Bachelor’s degree/B Tech in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
  • Government Certificate of Competence (GCC -Mines and Work (Electrical or Mechanical)) is essential
  • Professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) will be advantageous

Experience & knowledge required:

  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience is required of which 5 years should be at the management level
  • Project Management qualification/experience will be advantageous

Other requirements:

  • Valid EB/Code 08 Drivers License.
  • Successfully obtain a Red Ticket (Medical Fitness certificate) and Security clearance on mine.
