Vision

To be the leader in Occupational Therapy scholarship and practice in the region and in the greater African continent.

Mission

A dynamic and socially responsible training service and research facility that provides an Occupational Therapy Programme that is internationally competitive whilst being relevant to the South African context and which prepares students for excellence in Occupational Therapy Practice.

Bachelor of Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy training in KwaZulu-Natal is only offered at the University of KwaZulu Natal. Occupational Therapy as a career offers a wide variety of work opportunities in different setting including hospitals, specials schools for children with special learning needs and physical disabilities,
in community settings, clinics/health care centres, the insurance industry, children’s homes and facilities for the elderly. Occupational therapists can also go into private practice or work abroad after completing their year of community service. The Bachelor of Occupational Therapy is accredited with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) which is a regulating body for health professions. The students and practitioners are required to register with HPCSA and do a year of community service after qualifying.



Occupational therapy is offered as a full time 4 year Bachelor qualification with the option of doing a Masters degree after qualifying.
