ADMISSIONS TESTING

UNIVERSITY OF THE WITWATERSRAND* GRADUATE SCHOOLS OF MANAGEMENT

WITS BUSINESS SCHOOL (WBS)

Applicants are requested to read the following information with care. Tests are used in the selection process because research shows a correlation between success in the tests and on the programmes. However, the test results form only a part of the criteria for candidate selection.

To make a booking for a test, contact Benita Kolloori on 079 6012271 or [email protected]

Testing Dates for 2016 are available on the website www.wbs.ac.za Admissions tests form part of the application and should be written before the closing date for the particular programme, although they may be written either before or after an application is made.

Please note that test dates may change, however, applicants will be informed timeously of any changes.

Bookings, Test Fee and Payment:

Candidates should email Kathy Cannell to confirm attendance for their preferred date, noting that (a) space for each test session is limited so early booking is advisable, and (b) no refunds are possible. Please DO NOT email the proof of payment. Documentary proof of payment is needed at WBS on the test date. The banking details are as follows: FNB, Wits Business School, Current Account, Account number: 62150130690, Branch Code: 255005, Reference: 12306 and name of applicant. The testing fee on the published dates is R600 for diploma programmes (PDM) and R1 100 for Master’s programmes. Test fees are non-refundable. Should a booking be cancelled, penalty of R500 will be charged for re-booking.

Test times: Tests start at 09h00. Candidates should arrive 20 minutes early. A test administrator meets applicants at the Samuel’s Area at WBS at these times, and escorts them to the test venue. Regrettably, late arrivals will not be admitted for testing.

Testing Venue: Applicants report at the Samuel’s Area, Graduate School of Business Administration (WBS), Albert Wessels Building, 2 St David Place, cnr St Andrew Road, Parktown.

Test Results: Test performance feedback is posted to applicants, and detailed results are passed direct to Faculty Office. Under no circumstances are results released over the telephone. Admissions test results are valid for two years. Tests may not be rewritten within six months.

Duration: All applicants write three psychometric tests and a brief motivation/career plan, totalling up to three and a half hours including administration and a tea break, however, Masters applicants write an additional test of ±50 minutes. Applicants are advised against scheduling appointments immediately after testing in case this affects their concentration or they are tired after testing.

Preparation: The test measures abilities in the areas of general, arithmetic and cognitive reasoning, reading comprehension and written English. Unlike the GMAT test, they are aptitude tests, and require no preparation. Applicants may wish to remind themselves of basic arithmetic operations (times tables; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).

What to bring: Proof of payment valid for the relevant test session, a ballpoint pen and ID document. No dictionaries, tables, calculators, etc. may be used.
